The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has categorically denied endorsing any planned protest against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, his political superior.
News About Nigeria gathered the issue came to light when a group known as the Ondo Youth and Masses Conscience claimed that they had uncovered a plot to organise a protest against Governor Akeredolu’s absence.
They alleged that supporters of the Deputy Governor were behind the plan and suggested that its purpose was to paint Governor Akeredolu as incapacitated and hidden away from the public by his family and associates.
The State Coordinator of the youth group, Adetunji Benjamin, further asserted that the group intended to use the slogan ‘Jara e gba’ to mislead the people of the state and stir discord against the Governor.
However, Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa has now refuted these allegations in a statement he personally signed in Akure.
In the statement, he stated, “My attention has been drawn to some false publications in which it was alleged that a group loyal to me is planning to hold a protest against the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, today in Akure.
“This is to inform the good and peace-loving people of Ondo State that I am not aware of any such protest and no group or association has my endorsement to carry out public demonstration of any kind.”
He emphasised his commitment to the reconciliation efforts initiated by the national leadership of their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is aimed at resolving the ongoing political situation in Ondo State.
Aiyedatiwa encouraged the security forces in the state to maintain peace and ensure that the residents of Ondo State can go about their daily activities without disruption.
