Governor Rotimi Akeredolu

The youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State has expressed dissatisfaction with the continued absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The PDP youths, who protested on Monday at the Party’s secretariat in the state, explained that the protest was triggered by the bills the governor has been passing even while he is not physically present in the state, as he claims.

According to one of the leaders of the PDP youth group, Mr. Akintayo Oluyi, for the past nine months, there has been a leadership vacuum in the state. Since the governor returned from his three-month medical leave in Germany, they have not seen him anywhere near the state.

“Yet, we’ve been hearing of Akeredolu passing bills into law by proxy, and this is what prompted the protest by the youth wing of the PDP in the state. We can no longer continue like this. We are the voice of the people; we are the voice of the masses,” he lamented.

The opposition party’s youth wing also stated that the Governor must resume his duties because, according to them, he can no longer govern the state by proxy. They also alleged that if Akeredolu were truly fit, they would have spotted him in the streets of Akure.

The youths of the PDP, therefore, gave the Governor 24 hours to address the people of the state and a 3-day ultimatum to resume his duties as the Governor of the state.

“We’ve been seeing a series of responses from the APC that the governor will join us in days’ time. We are giving him a three-day ultimatum to address us, and if he fails, we, as the opposition party, will occupy the streets of Akure and continue to demand that he either resume or resign,” they added.
