Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the recent attack on Israel by the Hamas Islamic sect.
Reacting to the attack in a tweet via his official X account on Saturday, Fani Kayode condemned the Islamic sect’s actions, saying that they were not only despicable but condemnable and barbaric.
“There is nothing gallant or noble about firing rockets into and invading a sovereign nation, targetting and slaughtering innocent women and children and abducting civilians to take them back to your hell hole and cesspit of filth and your horrendous enclave of terror and butchery known as the Gaza strip,” a tweet by Fani Kayode read.
News About Nigeria reports that his comment comes just a few hours after former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani urged the President Bola Tinubu-led government to condemn the attack on Israel.
Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist group had earlier on Saturday caught Israel off guard with a major assault, marking one of the most significant attacks in decades. Gunmen, infiltrating Israeli villages, launched a sudden and devastating attack, resulting in the loss of dozens of lives and the abduction of hostages into the Gaza Strip.
Israel swiftly responded with a barrage of powerful airstrikes, targeting deep within the coastal enclave. These strikes resulted in numerous casualties, leaving scores dead and hundreds wounded, and Israel vowed an unprecedented retaliation in the wake of the attack.
Hamas leader, Ismail Haniyeh, declared that the initial assault, which commenced in Gaza, would extend its reach to the West Bank and Jerusalem, heightening tensions in the region.
According to reports from Israel’s N12 News, the death toll among Israelis has reached a grim figure of at least 100. Israeli security forces found themselves engaged in 21 active gunbattle scenes with infiltrators, and their navy intercepted and neutralized dozens of Palestinians attempting to infiltrate by sea.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s healthcare system is struggling to cope with the overwhelming surge of casualties. Gaza health officials have reported that at least 198 Palestinians have lost their lives, with more than 1,600 individuals sustaining injuries. Hospitals are grappling with the daunting challenge of caring for these patients amidst severe shortages of medical supplies and equipment, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
