'It's Too High' – Governors Reject N60,000 Minimum Wage Proposed By FG

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has warned the National Labour Congress against shutting down the national grid during industrial actions.

Issuing this warning in a statement made available on his official X account, the minister detailed that his office will engage relevant stakeholders to prevent future occurrences of such shutdowns.

“Regarding unauthorized shutdowns of the national grid during industrial actions involving electricity workers, we consider such actions as acts of economic sabotage and threats to national security. We will engage all relevant stakeholders to ensure that such incidents do not occur under any circumstances in the future,” the minister wrote.

His comment comes just as the NLC gears towards a fresh strike action after the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government failed to meet the union’s demands in the aftermath of the fuel subsidy removal.

News About Nigeria recalls that the federal government had earlier promised to increase the country’s minimum wage and initiate other palliative measures as part of its effort to cushion the heartfelt effect of the recent removal of fuel subsidy.

President Tinubu had on his assumption of office as the country’s president immediately eliminated fuel subsidy.

The move triggered the pump price of fuel to drastically increase from about N189 per litre to over N600 which it currently sells.

The latest increase has triggered an increase in the price of transportation, food items, and other commodities.

However, President Tinubu is yet to review the country’s minimum wage with the labor union threatening an indefinite strike action.
