Two Arrested Over Vigilante's Death In Lagos

The spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin has explained why the police dispersed fans of deceased Nigerian singer Mohbad during the candlelight procession held in his honour on Thursday.

He gave his explanation in a statement made available on his official Twitter page, detailing that the organizers of the candlelight procession agreed to end the event at 8:00 p.m.

News About Nigeria gatehred that his comment follows an allegation of intimidation by men of the Nigerian police force during the procession held in honour of the deceased singer.

Speaking on the police conduct in a statement made available on his official X page, he wrote:

“It is instructive to note that the Lagos State Police Command had an agreement with the organizers of the candle light procession that the procession was to end at 8pm latest and should terminate at Muri Okunola, Victoria Island. It was clearly stated for avoidance of doubt that in the interest of all Lagosians and considering the heavy use of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lekki Toll Gate would be a no-go area.”

The police spokesman explained that things, however, started to become concerning when some people started gathering at the Lekki Toll Gate with intent to manifest objectives unrelated to the justice for Mohbad initiative after the procession duly ended at Muri Okunola park as agreed, with the police providing optimal security throughout.

The Lagos State Command Commissioner of Police warned miscreants that anyone or group of people found disturbing the peace of the state, under any pretence, would be arrested and prosecuted to the utmost extent of the law.
