The Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal’s ruling that held the election of  Caleb Mutfwang as the legitimately elected governor of the Plateau State has been rejected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.

The APC described the judgement as a temporary setback and said it has asked its team of attorneys to promptly appeal the decision in a statement released by the party’s state publicity secretary, Mr Sylvanus Namang.

Despite the ruling against their party’s Governorship candidate Dr. Nentawe Yiltwatda, Namang urged party members and supporters to maintain composure, peace, and adherence to the law.

“The APC, in the state, has never been under any illusion that the journey towards reclaiming its mandate at the Gubernatorial Tribunal is going to be an easy task. We knew from the onset that it would be a painstaking and tortuous one. We are, through our very capable team of lawyers, just as they have already indicated, going to test the strength and veracity of today’s judgment at the Appeal Tribunal which we believe we shall emerge victorious given the severity of the loopholes contained therein,” the statement read.

The message commended party members and supporters for their maturity throughout the duration of the tribunal hearing and expressed the opinion that the APC would have the final laugh once the election’s legal proceedings were over.

News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the Plateau State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Jos on Friday dismissed the petition filed by the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nentawe Goshwe against the victory of the Governor of the State, Caleb Mutfwang in the governorship election.

The Court, therefore, affirmed the election of Governor Mutfwang of the PDP.

The Court said that it found no evidence to suggest that the gubernatorial election that produced Mutfwang as Governor violated the law.

The tribunal, therefore, ruled that the petitions against the Governor were incompetent and lacked merit.
