Human rights lawyer, Festus Ogun, has officially requested an inquiry into the tragic death of Afrobeats singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
In a letter addressed to the Attorney General of Lagos, Ogun cited concerns about the nature of Mohbad’s demise and requested a coroner’s inquest to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
News About Nigeria reports that Ogun stated in the letter, dated September 18, that there are valid reasons to suspect that Mohbad’s death was neither natural nor without suspicion.
He invoked sections 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s Systems Law of Lagos state as the legal basis for the inquiry.
Additionally, the lawyer urged the Attorney General to exercise the authority granted under section 17 of the Coroner’s System Law, which allows for the exhumation of the deceased’s body to enable the chief medical examiner to conduct a thorough anatomical examination and determine the exact cause of death.
Mohbad’s passing occurred under controversial circumstances, including his swift burial just one day after his death.
Following the news of his demise, various allegations emerged suggesting that the artiste did not die of natural causes.
Disturbing videos circulated on social media, depicting Mohbad in distress and appearing to lament the pain he had endured at the hands of unidentified people.
Notably, a 13-member Special Investigation Panel has been inaugurated to investigate Mohbad’s death, as revealed by Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, on Monday.
Commissioner Owohunwa emphasised the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s untimely death.
He also noted that the police have unique access to INTERPOL, which will aid in identifying and bringing to justice anyone linked to the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise.
