Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu Denied Access To Office

It was all drama at the Edo State Government House in Benin City on Monday morning, as the State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, was locked out of his office.

News About Nigeria reports that Shaibu arrived at his office to find the gates under key and lock.

He sought clarification from the Government House camp commandant, SP Ibrahim Babatunde, who conveyed that the directive to lock the office had come from higher authorities.

Babatunde suggested that the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at the Government House, Wabba Williams, could provide further information.

Despite calling Williams and waiting at the gate, Shaibu did not receive any communication. In a phone conversation with an undisclosed person, the deputy governor was heard expressing his surprise and disappointment, revealing that he had not received official communication from the governor’s office about relocating his office.

“Up till now, I don’t have any official communication that I should relocate, the only people that have official communication are my civil servants.

“The civil servants have official communication, but I don’t. As I am speaking to you now, I am standing by the gate,” Shaibu added.

Recent reports indicate that the State’s Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, had dispatched a letter to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, instructing Shaibu to move his office to a new location at No 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, GRA, Benin City.

Recall that the Deputy Governor has been at loggerheads with his boss Governor Godwin Obaseki in recent times over impeachment issues.
