The Nigerian police force has promised to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mohbad in light of the resurfacing of the petition filed by the singer in June.
Making this pledge in a statement signed by Force PRO, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police condoled with the family of the singer.
In the statement, Adejobi said that the Police had charged the Lagos State Commissioner with investigating the singer’s death.
“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to a comprehensive investigation into this matter, as the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has been tasked to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death,” the statement read.
The police added that they would keep the public updated on the progress of their inquiries.
News About Nigeria gathered that the police announcement comes after Nigerians expressed outrage after a plea previously filed by the deceased artist appeared on social media.
The musician had petitioned the Nigerian police to save him from a well-known socialite Sam Larry in the document submitted in June.
Nigerians were furious that the police failed to protect the artiste when he begged for assistance from them.
However, a spokesman for the Lagos Police Department clarified that the singer addressed his petition to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Lagos office, which is run by a superior authority, an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, and not the State Commissioner of Police, in defence of the Nigerian Police.
However, Nigerians have persisted in demanding that those accountable for the singer’s passing be brought to justice.
