The Elegushi Royal Family of Ikate Kingdom, led by Saheed Ademola Elegushi, has responded to speculations linking  Sam Larry, an associate of the controversial Nigerian artiste Naira Marley, to their family.

In the wake of the controversies surrounding the untimely death of the fast-rising singer Mohbad, there have been online rumours suggesting that Sam Larry and Naira Marley had consistently harassed the deceased.

Additionally, pictures of Sam Larry and the ‘Yahoo Boy’ crooner during a visit to Oba Elegushi’s palace have circulated on social media, News About Nigeria reports.

The Elegushi Royal Family issued a statement to address the speculations and disassociate themselves from Sam Larry.

They clarified that Sam Larry’s visit to the palace was akin to the visits made by other celebrities, politicians, religious leaders, and community figures to pay homage to the king and seek his blessings.

Expressing their condolences to the bereaved family of Ilerioluwa Aloba (known as Mohbad), the monarch emphasised the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death, with the goal of uncovering any foul play.

The statement reads, “The Elegushi Royal family of Eti-Osa wishes to put on record the misinformation in the media space involving Samson Erinfunlami Balogun (AKA Sam Larry). Samson Balogun is not a member of the royal family and does not work for the royal family or king in any capacity.

“Like other celebrities, politicians, and religious and community leaders, he visits the palace to pay homage to the king and seek royal blessing just like public members public.

“While extending condolence to the family and friends of IIeriooluwa Aloba (Known as Mohbad), we would like to add our voice to the calls for a thorough investigation into circumstances surrounding his death with a view to unravelling the foul play.

“We ask our friends in the media to be mindful of the sensitivity of the issue and desist from spreading falsehoods that may jeopardise this investigation.”
