Vice President Shettima Leads Envoy To Cuba For G77 Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has set out on a diplomatic mission to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G77 China Leaders’ Summit holding in Havana, Cuba, News About Nigeria reports.

The summit which is scheduled from September 15 to 17, is set to bring together leaders from around the world, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

The world leaders are to address the overarching global developmental issues under the theme, “Current Development Challenges: The Role of Science, Technology, and Innovation,”

Shettima has been joined for this important meeting by Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, as well as Mr Adamu Lamuwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This international gathering holds significant importance as it convenes members of the G77, a coalition consisting of 134 developing nations representing approximately 80 per cent of the world’s population.

The primary objective of the G77 is to advance the collective economic interests of its member nations and bolster their negotiating power within the United Nations.

Shettima’s involvement in the summit will see Nigeria have the podium, to share some of her challenges in the area of science and technology.

Meanwhile, his focus will not solely revolve around these discussions, as he will also leverage the opportunity to engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders. These discussions aim to foster stronger trade and investment ties for Nigeria on the global stage.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu has returned to the country, after the G20 summit that was held in New Delhi, India from September 9 to September 11, 2023.

The summit was attended by world leaders such as US President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
