Wrexham FC have signed former Scottish international striker Steven Fletcher, News About Nigeria reports.

The veteran forward has joined the Wales club, backed by Hollywood ownership, on a free transfer, in a deal that extends until the end of the season.

Fletcher’s most recent stint was with Dundee United, his homeland club, where he was released in June after a productive season that saw him score ten times.

The 36-year-old brings to Wrexham, his wealth of experience in the Premier League, having spent seven seasons in the top tier with clubs like Burnley, Wolves, and Sunderland.

Additionally, he boasts of six seasons of Championship-level play, representing Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City.

Fletcher’s international record is also notable, scoring ten goals in 39 appearances for the Scottish national team between 2008 and 2018.

Expressing his delight about joining Wrexham, Fletcher said, “Hopefully, I can bring a lot of experience. I’m 36, I’m still fit and still raring to go.

“One of the biggest selling points was the ambition of the club, and if I can help with that, then great. I don’t think you can ignore what has been happening at Wrexham – it’s been a great experience for the fans, players, and owners, so hopefully, we can continue that,” he added.

Meanwhile, Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, who had to start the season without injured striker Paul Mullin, expressed his satisfaction with Fletcher’s addition to the team’s squad.

He said, “I’m really pleased with the addition of Steve to the squad. He’s missed football through pre-season, but he’s trained today with the lads, and it’s good to have him on board.

“His achievements speak for itself, and he’s played most of his career at a very high level. He’s an excellent professional, and that’s really important to fit in with the group here.”
