Former education minister Oby Ezekwesili has hailed Nigerians who refused to retire to fate after the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal delivered its verdict in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ezekwesili, a supporter of Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, spoke for the very first time on Friday after the PEPT’s judgement that supporters of opposition parties kicked against.
Commending opposition parties for their move to challenge the tribunal’s verdict at the Supreme Court, Ezekwesili said challenging the PEPT judgement was the right thing to do.
“The #PEPTJudgement is rightly being contested by the petitioners who have headed to the final arbiter, the Supreme Court,” Ezekwesili said.
Hailing Nigerians who have refused to give up following the verdict of the Tribunal the former education minister wrote: “As arduous as the Constitutional Process is in our Democracy, my admiration is for all Citizens who have refused to “simply move on”.
Reiterating that all eyes are still on the judiciary, Ezekwesili argued that democracy belongs to citizens, not politicians and regulators, no matter how entrenched they may be.
She pledged that all eyes would remain on the judiciary until the entire constitutional process has been exhausted.
Her comment comes as the PEPT ruled in favour of the All Progressives Congress candidate President Bola Tinubu who was declared winner of the 2023 presidential election.
The PEPT had struck out cases brought by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Atiku Abubakar and that of the Labour Party, Peter Obi against the emergence of President Bola Tinubu as the country’s president.
Kicking against the ruling the opposition parties have announced their intention to approach the apex court as they seek to overturn the Tribunal’s judgement.
