Dr. Kadiri Akeem Babalola, a lecturer at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been accused of raping a 20-year-old female student, News About Nigeria gathered.

According to a tweet shared by Deji Lambo, an investigative reporter, the student visited the lecturer, an Associate Professor of Botany at UNILAG, to discuss academic concerns.

Instead of addressing the student’s academic issues, it is alleged that Dr. Babalola raped her on August 16, 2023.

The victim sought help from the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation (InclusiveSWEF), a non-governmental organisation.

InclusiveSWEF reported the case to the Gender Unit of the state police command, leading to the issuance of a warrant for Babalola’s arrest through the state High Court, involving the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG.

The Vice-Chancellor was given seven days to produce Babalola. Upon being summoned for questioning, InclusiveSWEF alleged that Babalola admitted to the crime.

The Vice-Chancellor promptly informed the police through the Chief Security Officer of the university, resulting in Babalola’s arrest.

InclusiveSWEF reports that UNILAG and the police have been diligently collaborating to ensure justice is served for the undergraduate student involved in the case.
