Mason Greenwood has expressed his excitement at an “amazing first day” with his new club, Getafe, as he was officially unveiled by the La Liga side, News About Nigeria reports.

The 21-year-old striker was presented at the Coliseum stadium in Madrid before a cheering crowd of Getafe fans.

Greenwood took to social media to share his excitement, posting a series of images from his Getafe presentation. He described the day as “amazing.”

During the presentation, the English forward waved to the crowd and kicked a signed football into the stands. Speaking to the audience, Greenwood expressed his happiness about joining Getafe.

He mentioned that he has been training diligently for the past four to five months and feels good about his fitness level.

The 21-year-old also acknowledged the importance of taking one game at a time, emphasising his commitment to the team’s performance in their upcoming games.

In addition to the excitement on the pitch, Greenwood’s personal life is flourishing in Spain. His girlfriend, Harriet Robson, who has a child with the footballer, was seen enjoying the Spanish sunshine, as shared on her Instagram.

However, Getafe’s warm welcome for Greenwood has faced criticism on social media, with some users describing it as “tone deaf.” Despite the criticism, the club remains keen about their new signing.

Greenwood trained with Getafe for the first time, marking his return to professional football after more than 18 months since his last game for Manchester United. While it’s unlikely that he is match-fit, Greenwood is focusing on strength and conditioning during training.

His move to Getafe was announced just before the summer transfer window deadline, with Manchester United agreeing to cover the majority of his £75,000-a-week wage during his time in Spain.

Greenwood’s departure from Manchester United followed an internal probe into his arrest last year, although all charges were dropped in February. He still had two years left on his contract with the option for a further 12 months.

His debut for Getafe is anticipated to take place on September 17 when the club faces Osasuna.
