The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has revealed that they will groud the main gait of the University of Lagos to drive home their grievances with the management of the institution when they protest against the institution fee hike on Wednesday.

Making this disclosure while speaking with News About Nigeria on Tuesday, Giwa Temitope, spokesperson of the student union tasked the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to solidarise with the students.

“All I know is that we shall ground the school main gate, and they (NLC) should put the students in consideration by solidarizing with us,” Mr Temitope said during a chat with our reporter.

His comment comes just as the Department of State Services (DSS) warned against any form of protest. In a statement released on Monday, the security outfit alleged that some individuals were trying to take advantage of the protest to undermine the efforts that President Bola Tinubu and the security outfit have made to ensure that law and order were maintained in the country.

Recall that the administration of the University of Lagos (Unilag) unreasonably hiked the institution’s tuition rate in July. The institution’s administration stated that the decision was made to reflect the economic realities brought about by the recent removal of fuel subsidy.

Many Nigerians, however, have continued to blame President Bola Tinubu for the most recent hike in institution fees. Some speculate that the decision to raise the institution’s charge was part of President Bola Tinubu’s plan to eliminate education subsidies, as the action coincided with a hike in tuition at unification schools around the country.
