Nigerian reality star Tacha Akide has called out Headies Awards organisers for holding the 16th edition of the annual event in the United States for two consecutive years, News About Nigeria reports.

The 16th edition of the prestigious Headies Awards recently took place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA, the same place it was held in 2021.

In a video that surfaced on social media, Tacha voiced her discontent with the decision to hold the award ceremony outside of Nigeria, particularly in the United States.

She stated that the BET Awards would never consider hosting their event in Africa.

“Guys, is it just me or this is just ridiculous? How is it that the biggest music award show in Africa is been held abroad back-to-back? What did our colonial masters do to us? What is the slave mentality? How does it make sense?

“The first time it was held in the US last year kinda makes sense. Afrobeats was still getting so much momentum, our artistes were filling up the stadium. Yes, it made sense.

“But doing it in the US again, a year after, back to back? Where is the sense in that? Because we are the ones promoting it here in Nigeria. We are the ones voting.

“Have you forgotten that there was a time when BET will not give awards to our artiste on the front stage? They were giving awards to artiste backstage. Have we forgotten so soon?

“Even BET – Black Entertainment – will not hold their award in Africa even if we cry left and right,” she said.
