Kano Mass Wedding

The Kano State Hisbah Board has procured furniture and other materials for the wedding of 1,800 intending couples under its mass wedding scheme, News About Nigeria reports.

The government has budgeted over ₦800 million for the purchase of clothing materials, food items, furniture and other necessities for the wedding.

According to the Commander-General of the board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa The mass wedding is expected to go a long way in curtailing vices and poverty in the society, as many marriages were being shifted from their original dates due to lack of funding from sponsors who are mostly their parents.

“1,800 couples will benefit from the gesture, which would go a long way in curtailing societal vices and poverty in the society, as many marriages were being postponed, due to the inability of parents to sponsor the wedding,” he said.

Each bride for the wedding is expected to receive a set of bed, mattress and pillows, as well as ₦20,000 to start up a business.

Daurawa also said that criteria had been set for the selection of the beneficiaries adding that those who divorced their spouses on flimsy excuses after the marriage would be made to pay back by the government.

“We have set out criteria for selecting beneficiaries. We will not give out our daughters in marriage to people who are not responsible and cannot take care of them. We will also not give out our daughters to people who are not from Kano State,” he said.

The mass wedding is expected to take place on September 4th at the Kano Central Mosque.
