Professor Bem Angwe, former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) governorship candidate, has withdrawn his party membership, News About Nigeria gathered.

Angwe was the party’s governorship candidate in Benue State for the 2023 general elections and a former national legal adviser of the party.

This announcement comes just ahead of the NNPP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Tuesday this week.

The NNPP has recently been embroiled in a crisis that resulted in the suspension of Dr. Boniface Aneibonam, the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), and Dr. Agbo Major, the party’s national publicity secretary.

Meanwhile, Major has dismissed his suspension, likening it to a Nollywood drama.

In a letter addressed to the ward chairman of Mbatyu NNPP in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State, Angwe explained his reasons for leaving the party. He cited the crisis and confusion within the NNPP as the primary factors behind his decision.

Angwe’s statement read, “Bearing in mind the brazen disregard by some persons in the Party to the well-outlined rules and regulations, enshrined in the Constitution of the Party, governing the conduct of the affairs of the party…

“Desirous of resuming my professional academic activities and my full involvement in the protection and enhancement of human rights in Nigeria as we strive to build a strong and better Nigerian nation based on the principles of freedom, equality, and justice…”

He further noted that he had complied with the resolution of the Elders and Stakeholders of the party in his immediate community in Benue State, who advised him to withdraw his membership from the NNPP.

Angwe expressed gratitude to his supporters and well-wishers, assuring them that he would keep them informed of his future endeavors.
