FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have finalized an agreement for the transfer of Ousmane Dembele, with the French winger moving to PSG for a fee of 50.4 million euros, News About Nigeria reports.
Dembele who arrived Barça in 2017 from Borussia Dortmund, had shown good talent in the Bundesliga before moving to Spain. His tenure at Barcelona, however, included moments of brilliance, also marred by unfortunate injuries.
Despite a hamstring injury early in his Barça career, Dembele showcased his potential, scoring his debut goal against Chelsea in the Champions League.
His second season saw him contribute more consistently, recording 14 goals and eight assists across competitions, with a crucial goal in the Spanish Super Cup victory over Sevilla.
Meanwhile, injuries hampered Dembele’s later seasons, but he regained form under the coaching of Xavi Hernández, scoring 11 goals and providing 21 assists in the past two campaigns.
His departure from Barça marks the end of a fruitful tenure, where he contributed to the team’s success, winning three league titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups.
In a message disclosed by football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Dembele expressed his enthusiasm about joining PSG: “I’m delighted to be joining Paris Saint-Germain and I can’t wait to play for my new club.”
He aims to continue improving and making the club’s fans proud in his new chapter with the French giants.
The transfer comes with a contract until June 2028 for the player who will wear the number 23 jersey at PSG.
Meanwhile, fellow French star Kylian Mbappé welcomed him warmly, saying, “Welcome home, brother. So happy to see you here. The adventure begins!”
The move to PSG is considered necessary for Dembélé, as he looks to contribute to the Parisian team’s ongoing success and make a fresh start in his football journey.
