Air Peace reports that a passenger on one of its flights allegedly stole N1 million from another passenger’s bag but was apprehended, News About Nigeria gathered.
Stanley Olisa, the airline’s spokesperson, issued a statement on Wednesday, detailing the incident that occurred on board an Abuja-Port Harcourt flight P47192 on July 27.
According to Olisa, the suspect stole the money, which was contained in a brown envelope, but was caught in the act by the bag’s owner, with the assistance of the airline’s staff.
During the flight, the suspect also took a computer bag from another passenger’s overhead cabin. After taking the money, the suspect transferred the computer bag to another luggage compartment and then moved to an empty seat at the back of the aircraft.
Despite the crew’s announcement of a proper disembarkation sequence, the suspect was one of the first to disembark the plane.
Once apprehended, the money was recovered from the suspect, and it was found that he had different currencies in various denominations on him.
The airline’s spokesperson informed that the suspect was handed over to the security operatives of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who transferred him to the police for further investigations.
However, it was later confirmed that the police released the suspect on bail, and the likelihood of prosecution seemed slim as the owner of the money was unwilling to pursue the case.
In light of this incident, the airline urges passengers to be more vigilant with their personal items while onboard. They assure that Air Peace staff will continue to prioritize security and safety during flights.
