Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum is grappling with a tough selection headache ahead of their crucial FIFA Women’s World Cup match against Australia, News About Nigeria understands.

With star players Rashedat Ajibade and Halimatu Ayinde now eligible to play after serving their suspension, Waldrum must decide whether to stick with the impressive young duo, Christy Ucheibe and Deborah Abiodun, or reintegrate the experienced players into the starting lineup.

Ajibade and Ayinde were suspended for the opening game against Canada, leading Waldrum to field the young talents, Ucheibe and Abiodun.

Surprisingly, the two former U-20 stars showcased remarkable tactical discipline, surpassing expectations for players of their age.

With Abiodun suspended due to a red card, Waldrum’s focus now shifts to whether to continue with Ucheibe or give a chance to Ajibade and Ayinde.

However, the selection dilemma doesn’t end there. There are concerns surrounding star striker, Asisat Oshoala, whose form has been lacking in the tournament.

Waldrum is contemplating whether Oshoala still possesses the fire and desire to lead the team’s attack in crucial must-win matches against Australia and Ireland.

A source within the team’s camp revealed the coach’s dilemma, stating, “Oshoala has not convinced Waldrum that she has the grit and desire to continue leading the team’s attack.”

This uncertainty puts additional pressure on Waldrum, who needs to make critical decisions for the team’s success.

On the other hand, Rashedat Ajibade remains optimistic about their prospects against Australia.

The forward, who is expected to return to the starting lineup, exuded confidence, saying, “We remain focused on the matches ahead and will be fighting for maximum points in the subsequent matches.”

The clash against Australia is crucial for Nigeria’s chances of progressing to the next round. With only the top two teams from each group advancing in the competition, securing a win or draw against the formidable Australians is vital for the Super Falcons.
