Paris Saint-Germain has given Kylian Mbappe permission to enter negotiations with Al Hilal after tabling €300 million offer for the French star, News About Nigeria reports.
If the deal goes through, Mbappe could become the first-ever €1 billion footballer, rewriting the record books.
James Benge, the CBS soccer correspondent who broke the news of the eye-popping offer, joined talkSPORT to discuss the implications of this historic bid.
The journalist said it is a staggering amount of money, and it comes with a willingness from Al Hilal’s side, if it’s what Mbappe wants, for him to go to Real Madrid next year,
Benge also revealed: “For Al-Hilal, when you put these numbers in euro terms, it becomes the first €1 billion footballer – there’s almost a desire for that to be the talking point of the summer.”
The proposed wages offered to Mbappe, which amounts to £604 million (€700 million), is unheard of in football history and would place the 24-year-old on a weekly salary of £11.5 million.
While such astronomical figures might be difficult for traditional football powerhouses like Real Madrid to match, Al Hilal is seizing the opportunity to make a significant statement in the football world.
In context, the £259 (€300m) million transfer fee alone eclipses the value of Mbappe’s former club Monaco at £247 million, underscoring the enormity of the offer from Al Hilal.
It’s a bid that could fund historical events like King Charles’ Coronation, purchase the entire Inter Milan squad, or even buy 882 million Freddos, a popular chocolate treat, and still have funds to spare.
While the prospect of such a record-breaking transfer is tempting, the ultimate decision lies with Kylian Mbappe.
Should he accept the deal, it would undoubtedly redefine the landscape of football transfers, making him the highest-paid and most valuable player in the sport’s history.
