The Bauchi State Government on Friday sacked six traditional rulers, News About Nigeria reports.

Their sacking was announced by the Local Government Service Commission in a statement.

Nasiru Ibrahim, the Acting Permanent Secretary, made this known on behalf of the Commission Chairman.

The dismissed monarchs were previously occupying positions in both the Bauchi and Katagum Emirate Councils.

Why Were The Traditional Rulers Sacked?

The statement said the monarchs were relieved of their duties because of their involvement in partisan politics.

They were also accused of misconduct, that they encroached illegally on forest reserves.

They allegedly felled some trees without permission from higher authorities, misappropriated and siphoned public funds.

They also did some acts of insubordination. All these crimes go against the established public service rules.

The affected traditional rulers include Alhaji Aminu Muhammad Malami, who served as the District Head of Udubo, Alhaji Bashir Kabir Umar, the District Head of Azare, Umar Omar, the Village Head of Gadiya, and Umar Bani, the Village Head of Tarmasawa, all belonging to the Katagum Emirate Council. Additionally, Bello Suleman, the Village Head of Beni, and Alhaji Yusuf Aliyu Badara, the Village Head of Badara, from the Bauchi Emirate Council, have also been relieved of their positions.

To ensure a smooth transition, the statement directed the dismissed traditional rulers to hand over their responsibilities to their respective secretaries.

Meanwhile, the emirate councils were instructed to appoint temporary overseeing officers to manage affairs until the Commission appoints new permanent officers to replace the ousted ones.
