Sporting news agency ESPN has slammed the Super Falcons of Nigeria, labeling the team as lacking harmony to excel in Australia, while participating in the FIFA 2023 Women’s World Cup, News About Nigeria gathered.
ESPN, one of the world’s leading sports media platforms, is said to have analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of the 32 participating teams, and their assessment of the Falcons’ current state does not augur well for their chances of winning the tournament.
The news agency pointed out that the Super Falcons have faced struggles in receiving fair treatment from their football association, and this has contributed to a sense of disunity within the team.
The omission of Ngozi Okobi Okeoghene, a prominent player, has been a major talking point, while coach Randy Waldrum has faced criticism following Nigeria’s failure to win the last African Women’s Nations Cup in Morocco.
Citing the challenging group that Nigeria has been drawn into, which includes Australia, the Republic of Ireland, and Olympics champions Canada, ESPN predicted that the Falcons might face difficulties qualifying from their group.
While acknowledging that Nigeria boasts the best team in Africa on paper, ESPN believes that the team’s current situation makes it highly unlikely for them to progress further in the tournament.
Amidst these concerns, ESPN highlighted the bright spot for the Super Falcons in the form of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
The 22-year-old Paris FC goalkeeper has been praised for her fine performances this season, catching the attention of big clubs after helping her team secure back-to-back qualifications for the UEFA Champions League.
