Paris Saint-Germain’s forward Neymar Jr has shed light on why Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe failed to win the UEFA Champions League for Paris Saint-Germain, News About Nigeria reports.

The formidable attacking trio of Messi, Mbappe, and himself failed to secure the Champions League trophy during their time together at the Parc des Princes.

In an exclusive interview with YouTuber Casimiro Miguel, Neymar revealed that the trio simply “didn’t fit in” as a cohesive unit, leading to their inability to conquer Europe’s premier club competition.

For over two seasons, PSG boasted a star-studded lineup with the likes of Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar, who are widely regarded as some of the best players in the world.

Despite their individual brilliance, the three forwards were unable to synchronize their talents effectively in the Champions League, resulting in elimination in the round of 16 in both seasons (2021-2022), losing to Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, respectively.

Reflecting on their time together, Neymar acknowledged the strength of the team on paper, stating, “Messi, Mbappe, and I are three guys who are the best in the world. We knew it, but unfortunately, we didn’t fit in. It wasn’t good for us.”

While the trio had high hopes of achieving success and winning major honors, they fell short of their ambitions.

Nonetheless, Neymar emphasized the team’s determination to win on all fronts and expressed his understanding that football sometimes does not play fair.

He acknowledged that despite their individual talents, successful teamwork is a complex combination of factors, including understanding each other’s playing styles and forming cohesive partnerships on the pitch.
