Contrary to recent reports, Roberto Calenda, the agent of Napoli star Victor Osimhen, has dismissed claims that his client is unwilling to sign a new contract with the club, News About Nigeria confirms.
The Nigerian forward who played a pivotal role in Napoli’s Scudetto triumph last season, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 32 games has been rumoured to be considering interest from top European clubs.
Responding to an article in the Naples-based newspaper Il Mattino that suggested the move, Calenda took to Twitter to label it as “fake news.”
The agent made it clear that his client is focused on his future with Napoli and has no intention of exploring other options in the transfer market at this time.
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has been adamant about keeping Osimhen and is uninterested in selling the 24-year-old striker.
De Laurentiis hinted that any potential suitors would need to offer a significant fee, with reports suggesting a figure upwards of €150 million to secure Osimhen’s services.
Napoli manager Rudi Garcia has also expressed confidence in Osimhen’s commitment to the club.
The new boss of the Serie A champions stated, “I can guarantee that Osimhen wants to stay at Napoli. He’s happy here and he wants to do great things.”
Garcia further affirmed that he has personally spoken to Osimhen, who expressed his desire to remain with the team and continue achieving success.
The reassurances from both Osimhen’s agent and Napoli’s management come as a relief to the club’s fans, while dispelling concerns about the player’s future.
With his exceptional performances last season, Osimhen has proven himself as a vital asset to the team and allegedly, remains determined to contribute to their continued success.
