The Department of State Services (DSS) has alleged that the suspended governor of the Central Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) may be connected to the separatist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
News About Nigeria reports that the security agency revealed this in a cryptic tweet on Tuesday afternoon.
Emefiele who was appointed CBN governor in 2014 by former president Muhammadu Buhari faced suspension by Buhari’s successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The DSS went ahead to arrest Emefiele and charged him in court over various crimes including money laundering, corruption and possession of arms and ammunition.
A high court sitting in Abuja on Friday ordered the DSS to release Emefiele but the suspended apex bank boss is still in the den of the DSS.
At least sixty lawyers led by Maxwell Opara and Ahmed Tijani have now sued the DSS to court again over the refusal to release Emefiele.
DSS is now alleging that Emefiele is being represented by the same lawyer as Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.
The DSS raised the question of whether Emefiele’s association with IPOB’s counsel suggests a link between the two.
“Charge and bail, overzealous uninformed IPOB/ESN lawyer Maxwell Okpara mobilises other like minded lawyers against DGSS. Futile Efforts. Well, Nigerians, beware! This is in bad faith. Transferred aggression.
“A Biafran Republic agitator and Outlawed IPOB counsel defending the suspended CBN Governor. Is IPOB defending one of theirs???? What a contradiction…..hmmm…what’s the connection? Is someone telling us something? May Maxwell be properly educated on points of law, please”, the agency tweeted.
