What Delta Governor Told Family Of 2-Year Old Boy Killed By NDLEA Officials

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori on Monday paid a condolence visit to the parents of a two-year-old child who lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet during NDLEA operations.

News About Nigeria reports that the 2-year-old identified as Ivan Omorhiakogbe was hit accidentally by a bullet during an operation conducted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, (NDLEA).

The bullet also accidentally hit his younger brother, Eromonsele Omorhiakogbe in the eye.

The unfortunate incident occurred in the Okpanam area of Asaba, the state capital.

The two boys were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba but unfortunately the eldest one, Ivan passed away.

The younger one is currently receiving treatment at the medical facility.

Governor Oborevwori on Monday expressed his deep condolences to the grieving family during the visit.

The head of the medical department attending to the child provided an update on his condition, stating,

“We conducted an X-ray and fortunately, there was no bullet present.

However, further investigations are required to determine the extent of the injury.

At present, we have successfully covered the eyes to prevent any infection. We are closely monitoring the child’s condition.”

Governor Oborevwori seized the opportunity to appeal to the NDLEA and the police to collaborate in uncovering the truth behind the incident.

He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to identify and bring the individual responsible for the accidental shooting to justice.

Assuring the grieving family, the Governor pledged,

“We will ensure that justice is served for the death of your son.

We will support the ongoing police investigation and refrain from making any comments until the investigation is concluded.”
