The spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, has strongly criticized the Dailypost newspaper for spreading false information regarding the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, News About Nigeria reports.
According to the newspaper, Obi had supposedly given an interview where he disclosed his intentions of running for the presidency in 2027.
However, Tanko, speaking on behalf of the Labour Party, issued a statement on Monday vehemently denying these claims.
Tanko emphasized that Peter Obi had not conducted any interviews, neither domestically nor internationally, discussing his plans for the 2027 presidential race.
Tanko further warned the newspaper to refrain from fabricating lies about their party’s flag bearer, highlighting the detrimental impact of such false reporting on the credibility of journalism.
In the statement released by Tanko, he addressed the issue at hand, stating, “We have become aware of an article published in the Daily Post and circulated on various social media platforms, claiming that His Excellency Peter Obi had granted an interview to Arise TV.”
He continued, “We would like to promptly clarify that this is a clear example of sensational and baseless journalism, taken to an extreme extent in an attempt to manipulate public opinion. It is important to note that at no point did His Excellency Peter Obi participate in such a vague interview with Arise TV.”
Tanko expressed his disappointment in the publication, questioning the journalistic practices employed by certain individuals within Nigeria. He highlighted the fact that Peter Obi had only recently returned from an overseas trip, making it even more implausible for him to have granted an interview during that time.
He concluded the statement by reiterating that Peter Obi did not, under any circumstances, conduct an interview with any media organization, whether within Nigeria or abroad, urging the public to take note of this fact.
