Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has categorically denied reports suggesting that he is in exile, clarifying that he is still residing in his hometown of Daura, News About Nigeria reports.

In a statement released by his former media aide, Garba Shehu, Buhari dismissed the rumors of him fleeing the country and being in exile as entirely false and misleading.

He emphasized that he has been in Daura, located in Katsina State, and has not left the country.

Shehu further asserted that the former president had never left Nigeria to seek refuge elsewhere.

He clarified that Buhari is currently at home with his family in Daura, where he continues to carry out his daily activities.

Addressing the issue, Shehu stated, “Every platform has tools to verify any information, and we don’t expect anything less. The report of President Buhari being in exile is absolutely false.”

Buhari recently traveled to London for a period of rest. During his visit, he had an opportunity to meet with President Bola Tinubu.

He returned to Katsina on Sunday, July 9.

His family were at the Katsina International Airport to receive him.

These false reports of Buhari’s exile have caused confusion among the Nigerian public, prompting the need for clarification from the former president’s camp.

Buhari’s denial seeks to quash the rumors and assure the people that he remains in his homeland.

Muhammadu Buhari served as the President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.

Since leaving office, he has maintained a relatively private life, focusing on his personal affairs and spending time with his family in Daura.
