The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has refuted a report alleging that the Department of State Services (DSS) conducted a raid on their premises to confiscate files containing incriminating evidence against President Bola Tinubu and his associates, News About Nigeria reports.
This denial comes in response to claims made by an online news platform, which asserted that the DSS secretly seized sensitive files from both the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and the ICPC, implicating President Tinubu and his close aides.
However, the ICPC, in a statement released on Saturday, categorically dismissed the allegation of a raid on their office, urging the public to disregard such claims.
They clarified that neither their headquarters nor any of their state offices house any files implicating President Tinubu or his associates.
Furthermore, the ICPC cautioned the media platform against allowing itself to be a conduit for the dissemination of falsehoods.
They emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and adherence to professional ethics.
In their comprehensive statement, the ICPC addressed the online medium, Saharareporters, and expressed their disapproval of the misleading news report titled “Secret Police, DSS Carts Away Files Implicating President Buhari, Close Aides from ICPC, CCB.”
The commission unequivocally declared that the alleged seizure of files containing incriminating evidence against President Tinubu and his close aides is baseless and lacks any factual basis.
They urged the public to dismiss these unfounded claims.
While acknowledging the media’s role in informing the public, the ICPC expressed deep concern over the irresponsible practices and disregard for journalistic principles exhibited by certain media outlets.
They implored media organizations not to allow themselves to be exploited by subversive elements spreading lies and unsubstantiated reports.
The ICPC emphasized that they are readily available to provide clarification and confirmation through their official communication channels.
