The Police Command in Anambra will now go after anyone providing false information about the state’s security situation on social media, according to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s spokesperson, News About Nigeria reports.
Ikenga told The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Friday that the command will put an end to such malicious activities.
He stated that people who spread fake security alerts and statements that disrupt the tranquility and smooth flow of commerce in the state would be targeted.
Mischievous individuals, according to Ikenga, have been releasing manipulated old recordings of security incidents to sow panic in the state, a scenario he described as intolerable.
He also mentioned that residents might get the “The npf” App for Android and Apple IOS to get quick and effective security solutions.
He said: “It is an attack on public safety which must be resisted,” he added, assuring residents that the command had improved security dominance and surveillance across the state.
“We are on top of our duties of protection of lives and properties, and we will never take that for granted.”
The spokesman said that businesses were fully open on Friday because of the confidence the people have in the security agencies.
“The Police together with other security forces have intensified patrols in the event of any security challenge, and I can attest that business is ongoing in major markets in Anambra, business is also smoothly moving in Nnewi and its environs today July 7.”
Ikenga said those trying to instill fear in the people will continue to fail, and urged the public to report any security concern through the Police Command Control Room number: 07039194332, or the Public Relations Officer on 08039334002.
