Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong completed a move from Watford to Greek football club PAOK Salonica, News About Nigeria reports.
Troost-Ekong struggled for match time at Watford which triggered a loan deal for him at the Italian club, Salernitana in 2022/23. However, his lack of form seemed to have followed him as he once more struggled to impress at the 1919-formed Italian Serie A club.
He has now returned to the Sky Bet Championship club, Watford after a short stint in Italy without luck and a buy option.
Meanwhile, Greek club PAOK Salonica has piqued interest in the Super Eagles assistant captain, offering to buy him for €1m. The 29-year-old is expected to join the club this week on a permanent deal, as Watford hints they have no need for him anymore.
William joined Watford in the 2020/21 Championship season and helped the club climb to the English Premier League the next season and watched it relegate in the 2022/23 season.
He had a total of 68 appearances for Watford, during his three years stint and recorded two goals. Troost-Ekong has previously played for clubs in the Netherlands, Turkey and Italy.
He was born in the Netherlands into a mixed Dutch and Nigerian family. He was eligible for both the Netherlands and Nigeria in international football but chose the West African country.
He made his debut for the Super Eagles in 2015 and has since earned more than 60 international caps, with four goals to show for his skills. He is also the vice-captain of the team after Ahmed Musa.
