The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed, has officially announced his resignation, News About Nigeria reports.

In a surprising turn of events, Rasheed made this announcement during a ceremony held in Abuja after granting an operational license for the establishment of a new university in Kogi State.

Expressing his decision to step down from his position, Rasheed revealed that he would be returning to his roots in academia, without providing specific details as to the reasons behind his choice.

The event also served as a platform for the Kogi State Government to obtain the necessary license from the NUC, enabling them to establish their third state-owned university, which will be named Kogi State University, Kabba.

Governor Bello, in his pursuit of this achievement, articulated the purpose of his visit to the NUC.

He explained that it was a direct consequence of the recent legislative action taken by the Kogi State House of Assembly, which passed a bill to enact the establishment of a third state-owned university, to be situated in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

In light of Professor Rasheed’s resignation, the academic landscape in Nigeria is likely to witness some changes. As the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Rasheed played a crucial role in overseeing the regulation and development of universities throughout the country.

His decision to step down and return to academia suggests a personal and professional shift, one that may be met with both curiosity and anticipation.

The establishment of a new university in Kogi State marks a significant milestone for the state’s education sector.

With the granting of the operational license by the NUC, the Kogi State Government can now move forward with their plans to provide accessible and quality higher education opportunities to its residents.

The proposed Kogi State University, Kabba, is set to become a beacon of knowledge and innovation, fostering intellectual growth and contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
