Uber Nigeria, the popular e-hailing platform, has announced a fare increase in response to the recent surge in fuel costs and inflation, News About Nigeria reports.

The decision aims to assist drivers in offsetting their rising operating expenses and is part of Uber’s ongoing commitment to supporting its driver community.

Tope Akinwumi, the Country Manager for Uber in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of drivers in the company’s operations and highlighted their efforts to prioritize driver satisfaction.

By implementing fare adjustments, Uber intends to ensure that drivers can maximize their earnings while still offering affordable services to riders.

Uber conducted a thorough analysis of the fuel subsidy removal and subsequently updated the fares on its app on June 3rd and 9th to align with the prevailing economic conditions.

These modifications have proven effective in supporting drivers by providing them with enhanced earning opportunities.

Additionally, Uber reduced its service fee in February 2022 from 25% to 20%, aiming to facilitate improved earning potential for drivers.

Acknowledging the significance of maintaining open lines of communication with drivers, Uber actively engages with them through various channels such as roundtable discussions, surveys, phone calls, and in-app communication.

These interactions help Uber gain insights into the challenges faced by drivers in their businesses and inform their decision-making process.

Uber said it remains committed to monitoring the local dynamics of the Nigerian market, ensuring that appropriate changes are implemented when necessary.

The service fee imposed by Uber plays a crucial role in supporting the functionality of the Uber App and enables the company to make continuous investments in technology advancements that benefit both riders and drivers.

Moreover, Uber asserted that its platform offers drivers higher earning potential compared to other ride-hailing services available in Nigeria. By providing a reliable and lucrative source of income, Uber aims to attract and retain skilled drivers while meeting the transportation needs of riders across the country.
