A Muslim cleric in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Alhaji Ibrahim Oyinlade, has been abducted by criminals, who are now demanding a ransom of N10 million for his release.

News About Nigeria reports that the abduction took place at the Asolo Farm Camp in Uso, on Saturday, June 17, 2023, around 3:00 pm while the cleric was working.

After Alhaji Ibrahim Oyinlade failed to return home and his mobile phone went unanswered, his family reported the incident to the police.

Subsequently, the abductors contacted the family on Sunday, requesting a ransom of N10 million in exchange for the cleric’s release.

This was the last communication the family had with the criminals.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident to journalists and informed them that the police and local vigilante groups were already conducting a search in the bush to locate the abducted cleric.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Uso Police Division and his team, along with the vigilantes, are actively engaged in the search operation.

The abduction of Alhaji Ibrahim Oyinlade has caused great distress and concern among the local community and the religious circle he belongs to.

The community is rallying together, hoping for his safe and swift release. They are also appealing to the relevant authorities and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his freedom.

Kidnappings for ransom have unfortunately become prevalent in some parts of the country, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of individuals.

In response to the rising cases of abductions, security agencies have been urged to enhance their intelligence gathering capabilities and strengthen their operations against criminal elements.
