The family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made an announcement regarding the termination of the services of the lead Counsel, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and Ifeanyi Ejiofor, who have been representing the pro-Biafra agitator.
News About Nigeria reports that the statement was issued by Kanu’s younger brother, Kanunta Kanu, and shared on his Twitter account on Thursday.
In the statement titled “Notice of Dismissal,” Kanu’s brother formally notifies Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Ifeanyi Ejiofor that their services are no longer required in the ongoing case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before the Supreme Court of Nigeria and any matters related to him.
One of the reasons cited for their dismissal is Ozekhome’s alleged refusal to grant Kanu’s personal physicians access to him for urgent ear surgery.
Kanu’s brother writes that after the court proceedings on May 11, 2023, Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has failed to visit his client at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja, despite receiving several messages from Kanu requesting to see him.
Furthermore, it is claimed that Ozekhome and Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor prevented medical doctors from examining Kanu on June 5, even though they were duly informed on June 2 and Kanu had instructed them to inform his family to make the necessary arrangements.
These reasons, among others, have led to the decision to sack Prof. Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and Barr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor as Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal representative.
The Kanu family expressed appreciation for the time and efforts invested by the dismissed counsels thus far, and requests them to promptly hand over all relevant legal documents.
