Renowned Nigerian comedienne, Gloria Oloruntobi, popularly known as Maraji, has come to the defense of Ekiti chef Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, following her attempt to break the record for the longest cooking time set by Hilda Baci.

News About Nigeria reports that Chef Dammy, an undergraduate from Ekiti State, recently completed a 120-hour cook-a-thon in an effort to surpass Hilda Baci’s record for the longest individual cooking time. However, the attempt has received mixed reactions, with some criticizing her for not waiting before attempting to break the record, which was officially recognized by Guinness World Records on Tuesday, June 13.

In a video shared on social media, Maraji addressed the criticism and defended Chef Dammy’s attempt, asserting that there is nothing wrong with it, as life itself is a competition. She highlighted that in various creative fields, such as music and comedy, individuals do not wait for others to achieve success before pursuing their own dreams.

Maraji dismissed the critics who suggested that Chef Dammy should have collaborated with brands or followed specific protocols like Hilda Baci did. She argued that such expectations were unfounded and expressed disappointment that the majority of the critics were women.

To support her argument, Maraji mentioned examples of individuals from the same country who have broken records within 24 hours after they were set, emphasizing that the pursuit of records is a common practice.

It remains to be seen how Chef Dammy’s record attempt will be received by the relevant authorities and whether it will be officially recognized.
