Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has taken a medical leave, entrusting the responsibilities of the state’s administration to his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, News About Nigeria reports.
This decision was confirmed by the Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Olamide Oladiji, announced the receipt of a letter from Governor Akeredolu, requesting a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad.
The leave was scheduled to commence on June 7 and last until July 6.
To accommodate the occurrence of public holidays, namely June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir on June 28 and June 29, the duration of the leave has been extended to July 6.
The governor expressed the need for additional time to ensure a smooth transition in his absence.
Governor Akeredolu’s letter specified that during his medical leave, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa would assume the role of acting governor.
This temporary transfer of power ensures that the state’s affairs will continue to be managed efficiently in the governor’s absence.
Mr Oladiji, the Speaker of the Assembly, described Governor Akeredolu as a proponent of peace and a champion of the rule of law.
He expressed his well wishes for the governor’s speedy recovery and an enjoyable vacation during this period.
Recall that the government of Ondo State urged the public to dismiss the circulating rumors regarding the alleged death of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, clarified that the governor is alive and actively fulfilling his duties by attending to state affairs and delegating responsibilities when needed.
Rumours about the governor’s demise dominated social media platforms, causing anxiety and apprehension among the residents of the state.
