Godswill Akpabio, the newly elected Senate President of the tenth Assembly, wasted no time in getting down to business.

On Tuesday, shortly after his emergence as the Senate President, Akpabio swore in the senators-elect, marking the official commencement of their duties.

Previously, News About Nigeria had reported on Akpabio’s victory over Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State.

The election results revealed that Akpabio secured an impressive 63 votes, while Senator Yari managed to garner 46 votes.

This outcome solidified Akpabio’s position as the Senate President.

Alongside Akpabio, another significant appointment was made during the proceedings.

Senator Jibrin Barau emerged as the Deputy President of the Tenth Senate.

David Umahi, the former governor of Ebonyi State, presented the sole nomination for the position.

With the swearing-in of the senators-elect, the tenth Assembly is now fully operational.

This crucial step signifies the beginning of a new legislative era, where elected representatives will deliberate on matters of national importance and work towards the betterment of the country.

As the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio holds a pivotal role in guiding the Senate’s activities.

He will be responsible for leading the debates, ensuring the smooth functioning of the Senate, and representing the institution in various capacities.

Similarly, the Deputy President, Senator Jibrin Barau, will serve as an important figure in supporting the Senate President and contributing to the overall functioning of the Senate.

With the Senate President and Deputy President in place, the senators-elect can now focus on their respective responsibilities.

They will engage in robust debates, propose bills, and participate in committee work to address critical issues facing the nation. Their deliberations will shape policies, laws, and initiatives that have a direct impact on the lives of Nigerian citizens.
