Former president of the United States of America (USA), Donald Trump has been arrested, News About Nigeria reports.

On June 13, Donald Trump made an appearance at a federal courthouse in Miami, where he was placed under arrest and formally charged with mishandling classified documents.

Trump was arraigned before magistrate judge Jonathan Goodman.

Interestingly, Trump was not required to take a traditional mug shot since there are numerous readily available photographs of him for identification purposes.

However, he did have to provide digital fingerprints and disclose his social security number and date of birth during the booking procedure.

The allegations against the former president stem from an indictment filed on June 8, accusing him of attempting to conceal and lying about classified documents.

Trump, in response, pleaded “not guilty” to the 37 charges presented by special counsel Jack Smith, pertaining to the mishandling of these documents.

Accompanying Trump at the federal court was Walt Nauta, his personal aide, who also faced accusations of misleading investigators and hiding boxes containing confidential paperwork.

Nauta did not enter a plea but was granted an extension until June 27 to secure local legal representation.

Addressing reporters at the courthouse, Alina Habba, Trump’s attorney, shed light on the unique treatment afforded to the former president in comparison to other defendants.

She highlighted that due to his exceptional circumstances, President Trump was exempted from the need for a mug shot.

Furthermore, she emphasized that he posed no risk of fleeing the jurisdiction.

Habba also pointed out Trump’s current position as the leading candidate of the GOP and assured that the legal process had been seamlessly coordinated with the Secret Service.
