Chelsea FC is set to announce Christopher Nkunku as the club’s new player, News About Nigeria understands.
The West London side is said to have offered about €70 million to get Christopher Nkunku to sign a pre-contract agreement to join the club for the 2023/24 season.
The two-year deal was confirmed by popular transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano in Dec 2022, and the paperwork confirming Nkunku’s move to Chelsea in July 2023.
The pre-contract agreement meant that Nkunku would have to spend the rest of the season at his club RB Leipzig, where he plays as a forward, before moving to Chelsea at the end of the season.
Nkunku started the 2022/23 season with Leipzig in incredible form, scoring 17 goals in 23 games, including three in the Champions League.
In the previous season (2021/22), he scored 35 goals and registered 20 assists in 52 appearances for the German Bundesliga side.
Meanwhile, in another recent news by Romano, the 25-year-old French professional footballer is set to be officially announced by Chelsea on June 19 and could remain with the English club until the summer of 2026.
Romano noted that nothing has changed about the player’s signing, as everything will work as planned, to bring the French man to England.
He recalled that the player had already completed his medicals with the club in September 2022 and the contract signed in December same year.
“No changes, no issues or no problems on Christopher Nkunku deal.
“Understand Chelsea originally agreed with RB Leipzig to announce Nkunku after his final games of the season with France (June 19).
“Medical done in September (!), contract signed in December,” he added.
