Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns about ongoing impersonation attempts that are causing confusion and havoc.
News About Nigeria reports that Obi, who previously encountered a case of “duplicate identity” in April when he was allegedly questioned by immigration officials in London, took to Twitter to address the issue.
In his tweet, Obi expressed distress over the activities of his impersonators, who not only mimic his appearance but also his voice.
He stated that there seems to be no limit to the extent people are willing to go to cause mischief and harm their targets, highlighting that he has been a target both locally and internationally.
Recently, on May 17th, an incident occurred in Abuja at the Court of Appeal premises during the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal proceedings.
Obi received a report while he was seated in the court, informing him about an individual named Prince Mustapha Audu, the son of the late Governor of Kogi state.
Audu allegedly held Dr Yunusa Tanko, Obi’s Chief Spokesman, and others spellbound outside the courtroom.
According to the report, Audu castigated and belittled Obi, describing him as an ethnic and religious bigot.
He claimed that Obi had called him while standing in front of his office on a Tuesday morning, speaking Igbo, but abruptly ended the call when Audu was unable to respond.
Audu accused Obi of empowering businessmen solely based on their ethnicity, questioning Obi’s suitability for national leadership if he cannot accommodate other ethnic groups.
Upon receiving the information, one of Obi’s aides alerted him, and he requested that they detain Audu and the OBIdients who were with him until he could come outside after the court proceedings.
After the session, Obi met with Audu and refuted the allegations, explaining that he had not called Audu and was not in Abuja or even in the country on the alleged day of the call. Obi clarified that he had been in France for a meeting, and later traveled to London to attend a birthday celebration.
Obi emphasized that this incident is just one of many desperate efforts to tarnish his reputation and label him falsely.
He expressed his lack of concern about healthy competition within the legitimate rules of engagement but expressed worry about the lengths some individuals are willing to go to undermine him.
The presidential candidate highlighted the significance of developing a nation in need of positive changes and urged the public to be cautious and not easily deceived by impersonation attempts.
Obi concluded by appealing to the public not to fall for the cheap tricks employed by those impersonating him, who have ulterior motives in mind.
