Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has been named in the English Premier League (EPL) Team of the Week after his outstanding performance against Chelsea, where he scored two goals, News About Nigeria reports.
Awoniyi’s impressive game at Stamford Bridge helped lift Forest out of the relegation zone. His goals, which came in the second half of the match, nullified Raheem Sterling’s double and secured a valuable point for both teams.
Since joining Nottingham Forest in June of last year, Awoniyi has emerged as a formidable force in the Premier League, consistently troubling defenders with his strength and speed.
It is no surprise that he has been recognized in the Premier League Team of the Week for matchday 36. Notably, Awoniyi is the only player from Nottingham Forest to make the selection.
In the current season, Awoniyi has found the back of the net eight times and provided one assist in 25 league appearances for Steve Cooper’s side.
Prior to his exceptional performance against Chelsea, he also scored in Nottingham Forest’s previous game against Southampton. He netted goals in the 18th and 21st minutes of the match, contributing significantly to Forest’s 4-3 victory over the visitors.
Thanks to their strong performances in these two fixtures, Nottingham Forest has managed to climb out of the relegation zone.
As they continue their unbeaten streak, Forest’s next challenge awaits them against Arsenal on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be determined to secure a win in the away match, keeping their hopes alive in the Premier League title race, especially if Manchester City loses to Chelsea in their next fixture.
