Nigerian Airforce Base on Fire

In a distressing incident on Wednesday morning, a fire ravaged several buildings located within the Nigerian Air Force Base along Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory, News About Nigeria reports.

At the time of this report, the cause of the fire outbreak, which occurred adjacent to the Nigerian Correctional Service National Headquarters, remains unknown.

Fortunately, swift action was taken by the operatives of the Federal Fire Service who promptly arrived at the scene to combat the flames.

Their efforts are focused on extinguishing the fire completely.

Amiola Adebayo, the Head of Operations for the Federal Fire Service in the Federal Capital Territory, said that the firefighters are diligently working to bring the fire under control.

Adebayo said, “There was a section of the NAF Base that was consumed by the fire, and our team is on site, diligently fighting against the blaze.

“We are exerting all our efforts to completely extinguish the fire. However, currently, we are unable to determine the exact cause of the fire outbreak.

“Once our investigation is finalized, we will provide an official statement to shed light on the matter”.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) serves as the air arm of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Established on April 18, 1964, it holds the distinction of being the youngest branch among the Nigerian Armed Forces.

With a sizeable force comprising approximately 18,000 personnel and an impressive aircraft fleet, including 9 Chengdu F-7s, 12 Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jets, three JF-17 Thunder Block II aircraft, and 12 Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucanos, the NAF ranks as one of the largest air forces in Africa.

Additionally, the NAF has 24 M-346 FAs on order, helicopter gunships, armed attack drones, and military transport aircraft at its disposal.
