President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar lost in the February 25 presidential election, News About Nigeria reports.

Buhari said they failed because of overconfidence.

He made the statement during a meeting with the Progressives Governors’ Forum led by its Chairman, Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State.

According to the President, the opposition party lost because they were already boasting to their foreign backers about defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the election.

However, the APC worked hard to retain power and mixed confidence with caution.

The President explained that the opposition’s overconfidence, complacency, and bad tactical moves created problems for them, making it hard to convince their supporters why they were unable to win the election.

The President encouraged APC governors to remain united and address issues openly among themselves to survive politically in Nigeria.

He advised them to develop a program to meet regularly and discuss issues on maintaining the party nationwide.

In attendance at the meeting were several APC governors and deputy governors, as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The President congratulated the APC and Asiwaju on their victory and said the opposition party’s false hope and support from outside led to their failure to defeat the APC.

President Buhari’s advice to the APC governors to stick together, discuss openly, and maintain the party nationwide is essential for political survival in Nigeria.

The President’s statement that the opposition party lost due to overconfidence, complacency, and bad tactical moves is a lesson for all political parties to work hard, blend confidence with caution and avoid complacency.
