Former Paris Saint-Germain player Jerome Rothen has slammed Lionel Messi for abandoning Barcelona to join PSG all because of money.

Rothen claimed that the seven times Ballon d’Or winner only left Barcelona because the Camp Nou landlords could not afford to pay what he wanted, News About Nigeria gathered.

The Argentina international left Barcelona for PSG in 2021 after the La Liga side could not offer him a new deal as a result of their financial difficulties at the time.

Rothen told sources that the 2022 World Cup winner now wants to leave Parc des Princes after making money and not caring at all about how the club faired.

“I have no words. It’s completely out of place. That’s how much he doesn’t give a damn about the world since he arrived.

“He didn’t come for the right reasons, he only came for the financial conditions. In Barcelona, we know very well why he left. They could no longer pay him the way they paid him,” he sid.

Rothen also noted that Messi will not leave PSG a happy man. He expressed his disappointment over the Argentine international attitude, irrespective of his performances.

“He came to PSG with tears and he will leave with the frustration of not having been able to revalue his salary,” he said.

“It is a disappointment, another one. had a lot. I am extremely disappointed with his attitude, his performance and this information. I don’t care if he has 15 or 20 assists,” sources quoted him as saying.
