Nigeria mourns the loss of Alhaji Musa Gwadabe, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity who passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 86 after battling an illness.

Gwadabe was a pioneer member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and served as a Minister during Olusegun Obasanjo’s first tenure from 1999 to 2003. He was widely regarded as a capable administrator and played a key role in implementing the state government’s agenda.

During his tenure as Minister of Labour and Productivity, Gwadabe oversaw labor relations and workplace regulations in Nigeria. He negotiated several labor agreements and implemented policies aimed at improving working conditions and protecting workers’ rights. Gwadabe was instrumental in the government’s focus on job creation, implementing several programs to boost employment opportunities across the country.

Beyond his political career, Gwadabe was known for his philanthropy and community service. He was involved in several charitable organizations and initiatives aimed at improving the lives and well-being of Kano residents. His daughter, Aisha Musa Gwadabe, confirmed his passing and announced that the funeral prayer would be held at 2.00 pm at the minister’s residence on Maiduguri Road in Kano.

Alhaji Musa Gwadabe leaves behind a legacy of public service and commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians. His contributions to labor relations and job creation will not be forgotten, and his philanthropic work will continue to impact the lives of many in Kano. He is survived by two wives, 11 children, and numerous grandchildren, including Alhaji Nazifi Musa Gwadabe, a Kano-based contractor. The Nigerian political landscape has lost a true leader and a dedicated public servant.
