Charly Boy Raises Alarm Over Non Circulation Of Redesigned Naira Notes

Nigerian musician and activist, Charles Oputa, better known as Charly Boy, has raised an alarm over the non-circulation of the newly redesigned N1000, N500, and N200 naira notes.

Checks by News About Nigeria showed that Charles Oputa’s observation came after a Supreme Court ruling in March directed that the previous version of the naira notes, as well as the new naira notes, be made legal tender until December 31, 2023.

Emmanuel Agim, a member of the seven-judge panel, who presented the lead decision, had stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s order to redesign the new notes and withdraw the old ones without appropriate consultation was invalid.

However, Charly Boy took to his Twitter page to express his concern, stating that only the old notes are currently in circulation since the court’s decision.

He shared a picture and captioned it;

“I nor dey see new naira notes again oo.”

His caption read: “Why, why, why? Can somebori tell me why?”

Charly Boy’s post has garnered reactions from other social media users, who expressed disappointment and called on the appropriate authorities to address the issue.

Some also criticized the decision to redesign the notes, citing concerns over the cost and the need for the redesign.

It remains unclear why the newly redesigned notes are not in circulation, and there has been no official statement from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or the Nigerian government regarding the matter.
